Recruiter Spotlight: Colby Yoshimura is Passionate About Helping Others

Have you met Executive Recruiter Colby Yoshimura, one of CyberCoders' Rockstar Recruiters?

Colby, who was born and raised in Hawaii before moving to Orange County to attend Chapman University, has a strong passion to help others and empower them to be in the right position to succeed.

"I love getting to know clients and candidates on a personal level because I understand that a career is so much more than skill sets and responsibilities. It is a livelihood and a huge part in one’s life."

1. Tell us about an exciting job match you made recently?

I recently placed a Technical Project Manager whose background was promising for the role, but we really had to dig and have a heart-to-heart to make sure that it was the best decision for him and his family (especially with other opportunities lined up). Every candidate is different and has unique preferences, so getting to know his story and having an honest, open relationship allowed me to get him what he deserves.

As business partners, my client and I worked together to understand immediate and long-term needs, improve their hiring process, set realistic market expectations, and ultimately got the right person on board that will be an invaluable resource for their company.

2. What drives you to go above and beyond?

I’m driven by the pride I take in myself and my work. I believe “going above and beyond” is a necessity to differentiate myself from other companies and other recruiters within the industry. There’s nothing more rewarding than earning the appreciation of both my clients and candidates. I aim to build long-term relationships with those that I have partnered with, and also look forward to exceeding the expectations of future clients/candidates.

3. What do you think separates CyberCoders from the average recruiting firm?

At CyberCoders, we have incredible resources including Cyrus (Propriety Search Software and Extensive Database), key partnerships with LinkedIn & other companies, and much more! These tools allow us to provide real results to clients that are unmatched by other firms in terms of the level of talent, speed of the process, and overall market knowledge, while also giving candidates maximum exposure to choose the right opportunity and ensure a good fit.

The company culture within CyberCoders is an awesome balance of collaboration (for knowledge share) and competition (for constant improvement). The autonomous culture also allows each recruiter to essentially run their own business, giving us the power to customize our services to our personal strengths and provide the best for all parties.

4. What is your favorite part about being a recruiter?

My favorite part is creating mutually beneficial relationships between both clients and candidates. I’ve found it to be personally and professionally fulfilling when I can foster these types of opportunities because happy and successful candidates translates to happy and successful clients. Creating these win-win situations are always the best and most rewarding, but it is only possible by being more than the title of “recruiter” and being a solutions provider to solve real problems.

5. What are your favorite hobbies or activities outside of the office?

I love traveling and trying new things! I’m currently at 13 countries with a growing bucket list in my constant search for new experiences that will make me a better person and give me new life perspectives. Being born and raised in Hawaii, I enjoy an active lifestyle, but I’ll always be happy to share a nice meal and a few drinks with good company (whether it’s with old friends, new friends, or friends to be)!
